Sirens
Inspired by Rudolf Schwarzkogler and his use of fish as imagery, I wanted to make a series of photos that confronts the viewer with their natural tendency to be transfixed by the horrific. My goal was to make the viewer feel as if they were complicit in violating something, like following after an ambulance or peering through someone’s window. I aimed to achieve this by capturing the human aspects of the freshly killed fish: their eyes, the movement of their still struggling bodies, their bones. This is the siren’s call; you know better than to look, but this knowledge just makes you want to look even more.
